Joann Oman, 85, of Rochester, died Sunday (Dec. 9, 2012) at the Homestead at Rochester where she had resided for the past two years.
Joann Monkman was born March 28, 1927 in Bottineau, North Dakota to Herbert and Hilda (Larson) Monkman. She was raised in Souris, North Dakota where she graduated from High School. She received her RN from Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis where she worked until starting her family. On Sept. 4, 1948 she married Robert C. Oman in St. Louis Park, MN where the couple lived until 1956 when they moved to Rochester. Joann worked as an RN at the Rochester State Hospital. Her husband was the former owner of Squire's Electric, he died March 13, 2003. As a couple they enjoyed traveling spending time at their cabin at the lake, and spending winters in Mesa, AZ. Joann enjoyed gardening, Bridge, and reading.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (John) Mills of Ely, MN; her son, Ron (Joy) Oman of Nacogdoches, TX, formerly of Austin, MN; grandchildren, Daniel (Christine) Mills, David Mills, and Angela (Bill) Lee, and great grandchildren, Austen Mills, and Caitlyn and Hannah Lee. She was preceded in death by three brothers, and three sisters.
A private family service for Joann will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Seasons Hospice.
