Joan M. Swarthout, 85 years old of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Rochester Rehabilitation and Living Center surrounded by loved ones.
She was born July 13, 1933, the daughter of Walter and Alice Drazan of Oronoco, MN. She was preceded in death by a baby sister, mother, father and husband, Clifford (Tete) Swarthout. She is survived by her sister, Karen Gullikson, nieces Ann Downey, Patti Wallace, Jill Shermer and many other nieces and nephews
She graduated from Pine Island High School in 1953 and married Clifford (Tete) Swarthout
October 17, 1953. They lived in Oronoco, Rochester and Pine Island during their 60 years of marriage.
Joan's working career was with Woolworths, Waters Conley, Zumco, and retired after working
20 years for IBM in 1990.
Joan was a 45+ year member of the Swanson-Owen VFW Auxiliary #9647 and a 29 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary #184.
Her passions were crocheting, quilting and sewing. She enjoyed, with her husband, many road trips, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and an occasional casino run. They both loved spending time with their nieces Ann, Patti and Jill and with the extended family members and their trips together.
People who came in contact with Joan liked her pleasant personality, sensor of humor and compassion.
The family would like to express thank you to all who have touched Joan's life and care during her journey, with a special thank you to Dr. Greenland, the caretakers at The Homestead and
Mayo Clinic Hospice.
There will be a celebration of life, on her birthday, Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Oronoco Presbyterian Church. More information to follow at a later date.
