Joan F. King, age 92 of Pine Island left us on September 15, 2017 in Rochester, MN. A memorial honoring her life will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Oronoco Cemetery.
Joan Freda Cowden was born on June 6, 1925 in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Ed and Coral (nee Kunz) Cowden. She married Walter Spaulding on December 12, 1942 and they were later divorced. She married Claude King on March 7, 1977.
Joan lived all her life in the Pine Island area. She devoted her life to caring for her family and friends. Before retiring, she spent many years as a homemaker, farming, and managed several restaurants. She also worked at Waters Conley and Crenlo.
Joan enjoyed participating in the Friendship Wagon Train for over twenty years and was an active member of the Swanson - Owens VFW Post #9647 Auxiliary in Oronoco for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and crafting. She sang in the choir at Saint Paul Lutheran Church of Pine Island and the Grace Lutheran Church of Oronoco.
Joan is survived by her children; Raymond (Sandy) Spaulding of Dodge Center, Nancy Stofferahn of Pine Island, Randy (Geraldine) Spaulding of Pine Island, Sandy (Gordy) Boyle of Inver Grove Heights, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brother Paul Cowden of Pine Island, 3 sisters-in-law Darlene and Dolores Cowden of Pine Island, Alvie Horsman of Kasson, and very special friend Don Baker.
Joan was preceded in death by; spouse Claude, grandson Thomas Spaulding, granddaughter Monica Archer, great-grandson Drew Connor Spaulding, great-granddaughter Linsey Lee Spaulding, parents Ed and Coral Cowden, brothers Caryl, Ken, Stub and Tom Cowden and sisters Ruth Nichols, Fern Goings, and Marion King.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
