Joan Marie Butler

Joan Marie Butler, 79, proudly of Red Wing, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2016 at St. Crispin, Seminary Home. She was born September 13, 1936 in Red Wing to Alton and Myrtle (Aslakson) Duden. She grew up and attended school in Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1954. On September 18 of the same year she married Ozzie Butler in Lake City. Eventually, the couple made their home in Red Wing where they raised three children. Joan worked at various restaurants over the years but most recently she worked for REM and at Treasure Island Casino. Joan was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, who loved to get to know people. She was proud of her hometown and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She enjoyed art and gardening and had a special love for butterflies. Despite her health problems she wasn't one to complain or to quit and she always had a smile on her face. She knew how to have fun and had a fabulous sense of humor. Most of all, Joan will be remembered for how much she loved her family and how proud she was of to be a part of it.
She is survived by two daughters, Alana "Lonni" Butler of Superior, Wisc. and Andrea "Andi" (Jim Diggins) Strusz of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Morgan (Keith) Allen of Wanamingo and Jordan Strusz of Red Wing; one great grandson, Mason Allen; three siblings, Kay (Jim) Nash, Dale (Ginny) Duden and Daryl (Ann Marie) Duden, all of Red Wing; six nephews, extended family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Butler and her parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 8 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 7 at the Chapel at St. Crispin, Seminary Home and one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice of charity.
