Jerry Loren Black, 73, of Red Wing, went home to be with his Savior, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Red Wing. He was born July 14, 1947 in Red Wing to Loren and Lila (Giere) Black. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1965 and went on the University of Minnesota where he majored in business administration. He enlisted in the US Air Force and later the National Guard. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for NSP, at both the Red Wing and Monticello plants. He then became a project manager for ZACK Company which brought him to Lansing, Michigan. It was in Michigan, where he met and married Laura Loose on July 30, 1983. They returned to Red Wing and he worked at Tech Source Design and Central Research before returning to NSP, where he stayed until his retirement. Though he worked full-time, farming was always a part of his life--from his childhood, to helping his father and uncle, and his post-retirement life, he never gave it up, he always enjoyed working on the land. More than farming, he loved his family, especially his grandkids.
Jerry also enjoyed cars, racing and finding a good deal on a car for family and friends and going to auctions. When he was younger, he played baseball, football, and racquetball. Jerry was well-known and wherever he went, he usually found someone he knew. He was a kind and giving man who will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Laura of Red Wing; two sons, Jerome (Gitl) Black of Oregon and Michael Black of Washington; two daughters, Crystal (Chris) Nelson of Red Wing and Cayla (Rob) Dankers of Red Wing; 9 grandchildren, Faith, Lila, Daniel, Danica, Jerica, Christian, Isaac, Carson and Natalie; one great grandson, Jasper; three siblings, Sandy (John) Humphrey of Woodbury, Sharlene (Barry) Gish of Woodbury and Jim (Yvonne) Black of Red Wing; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Lila and his uncle, Roy Black.
