Jennifer Lee Fick (Berg), 73, of Lake City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 1st, 2023 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Jenni was born November 24, 1949 in St. Paul to Irvin and Connie (Sattler) Berg. She spent her school years growing up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1967. She enjoyed school choir and directing some school plays as well as playing tennis while in school. After Jenni graduated from Zumbrota High School she went on to attend Rochester Junior College for a couple years pursuing a teaching degree, ultimately graduating for Mankato State University in 1971 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. After graduating college, she moved to Lake City and took a teaching job with her best friend Susan Blumberg at Lake City Public Schools where she taught first grade up until her retirement in 2012. During the summer of 1972 Jenni met Burton Fick of Lake City while he was home from college during his summer break. Months later on August 18th, 1972 she married Burt before he returned to school which was the start of a beautiful 45 year marriage before his passing in 2017.
While Jenni lived her early years in Zumbrota she called Lake City her home, living in the same home for more than 50 years. Jenni loved kids, being with kids and as an elementary school teacher she cherished each and every student for 40+ years. She loved children so much she and Burt started their own family in 1976 welcoming the first of three sons being Jacob, followed by Anthony in 1979 and finally with Lucas in 1981. These three were her greatest pride and joy, she would do and did anything for her family. Jenni loved to sew, read, watch her kids play sports and spending time on the river; while her true passion was her family and loving friends. Jenni had an amazingly caring heart and ability to connect with anyone. Jenni was always willing to help with anything from teaching Sunday school at St John’s Lutheran Church, to volunteering at her Grandkids school, or making sure her boys were well fed, raised right, and given every opportunity she could provide. Her presence will live on for generations through her sons, her grandkids, friends, all her past students and anyone that got the pleasure of meeting Jenni and experiencing her giant heart and loving nature.
Jenni is survived her children, Jacob (Michelle) Fick of Lakeville; Tony (Jill) Fick of Lake City; and Lucas (Kelly) Fick of Lake City; grandchildren Lauren Fick, Kolten Fick, Taylor Fick, Alyssa Fick, Brody Fick, Della Fick and Bennett Fick; sister Marcia (Rick) Lund of Eden Prairie, brothers Wayne (Jenni) Berg of Rochester and Jim (Maria) Wilkes of Richfield.
