Jeff Freund

Jeffrey Paul Freund, 59, of Red Wing, died, February 5, 2014, at home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. He was born January 17, 1955, in Sheboygan, Wis. to Ervin and Florence (Sagstetter) Freund. His family moved to Plum City when he was two years old and he attended school there. He graduated in 1973 from Plum City High School and then went to Eau Claire Technical College where he studied auto mechanics. In 1977 he married Darla Coburn, they lived in Plum City and together they had two daughters. They later divorced. In 1993 he moved to Red Wing. He began working at the Red Wing Shoe Company on September 15, 1975 where he was employed for 39 years, retiring on February 1, 2014. He was an active member of the Plum City Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders for almost 20 years. He was a photographer and was a member of the Red Wing Photography Club. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his daughters. In his later years he developed a talent and a love for cooking and will be remembered for his fantastic cheese cakes. He was also a BBQ competition judge and traveled around Minnesota and to Las Vegas to judge competitions.
He is survived by his daughters, Ashley (Matt) Haflund of Rolla, MO. and Molly Freund of St. Cloud; two grandchildren, Gabriel and Isabella Haflund; one brother, Michael (Jeanne) Freund of Ellsworth, as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Patrick Freund.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Plum City. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014 and one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
