Jeanne Pauline Houchins

January 3, 1957 — October 28, 2016

Rochester-    Jeanne (Janzow) Houchins passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, when her soul was gently placed in the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus.
Jeanne was born on January 3, 1957 to Art and Dorothy Janzow of St. Ansgar, Iowa, the second of three children. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. She was involved in many activities at Immanuel, including Sunday school, Choir, Confirmation Class, Vacation Bible School, and Walther League.
Jeanne attended St. Ansgar Community Schools and graduated from high school in 1975.  As a child, she began to draw and paint, and loved doing various art projects. This love of creating continued through high school and into college where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design in 1982, from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. It was here that she met the love of her life, Michael Houchins. They were married on December 23, 1982. In August of 1993, Jeanne and Mike adopted their infant son from Korea whom they named Mitchell James Houchins. Mitchell was a joy to them and made their lives complete.
Jeanne worked in various retail stores in Cedar Falls, Des Moines, and Ames. In 1998, she opened her own interior design company, "Studio 1357 Inc." in Spencer. Jeanne was also a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.  She was an immensely talented interior designer, and could make something beautiful with very limited resources.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Dorothy Janzow, her husband, Michael, and her father-in-law, James Houchins also her cousin Stephan Janzow.
She is survived by her son, Mitchell, granddaughter, Summer Rose, mother-in-law, Nancy Houchins of Arnold's Park Iowa, her sister, Judy (Patrick) Bader of Thousand Oaks, California, her brother, Ted (Denise) Janzow of Rochester, Minnesota, two nephews, Teddy Bader and Steven Janzow and a niece, Lauren (Nathan) Riess of Elgin, Minnesota, her aunt, Anita (Bert) Janzow and her uncle, Richard Janzow and the congregation of Christian believers. Services are planned for a later date and online condolences may be shared at mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
