Jeanette E. Carlson

Jeanette Eleanor Carlson, age 90, of Welch died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on March 27, 1918, in Newfolden, Minnesota, to John H. and Josephine (Nelson) Johnson. She moved to Fergus Falls where she graduated from high school in 1936. She attended Moorhead State Teacher's College where she received her teaching certificate in 1938. She worked as a teacher in Detroit Lakes, Danube and Granite Falls prior to moving to Red Wing in 1940, where she taught in the Burnside School district. On October 6, 1945, she married Donald Carlson in Devil's Lake, North Dakota and they lived in Welch. After fourteen years of being a homemaker, she returned to teaching first and second grades at Burnside School in the Red Wing School District. She retired in 1982, after twenty-two years of teaching. She was an active member Cross of Christ Lutheran church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Circle. She enjoyed reading, traveling and attending her grandchild's activities and she had also volunteered with the American Red Cross.

Survivors include her husband, Donald, of Welch; one daughter, Gwen (Stuart Beattie) Carlson of Minneapolis; and one granddaughter, Lydia Beattie of Minneapolis; two sisters- in-law, Gene (Kennard) LeClaire of Rochester and Phyllis Carlson of Peabody, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by one brother, Durwood Johnson; beloved sister, LuVerne Berg; step-granddaughter, Carey Beattie.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Bob Albing officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 ? 7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Memorials are preferred to the church or the World Mission Prayer League.
