Jean L. Meyer

June 16, 1927 — May 29, 2013

Jean L. Meyer, beloved friend of many and mother of six, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the age of 85. Jean was the eldest daughter of Andrew and Bertha Guenther. She was born June 16, 1927, in Elgin, North Dakota, graduated from Elgin High School, and worked as a clerk in the Elgin Post Office. It was while working at the post office that she met her husband, Curtis Meyer. Following their wedding, Jean and Curtis made their home at the Meyer ranch in North Dakota. After a year they relocated first to Red Wing, Minnesota and later to the E-Z Duzzit Ranch in rural Hager City, Wisconsin. Most recently Jean has been living back in Red Wing.
Jean loved her Lord Jesus Christ and her family. While residing at the E-Z Duzzit, and when not serving up home cooked meals to the many friends and relatives who frequented her home, Jean enjoyed making ceramics, tending flowers and watching the birds and other wildlife that visited her birdfeeders. She volunteered for her church and at Jordan Towers. In addition to being a postal clerk, Jean worked at The Chick Inn, Munson Printing, and Semcac. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing and the Mississippi River Bluffs Chapter of the Pierce County Historical Association, the Pierce County Democrats and other organizations having a mission to preserve our land.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis and her sister, Ariel Timm. She is survived by her six children, Fred Meyer of Eureka Springs, Ark., Michael Meyer of Minneapolis, Minn. Christopher (Karen) Meyer of Ellsworth, Wis., Sylvia (John) Nolan of Los Fresnos, Texas, Randall (Diane) Meyer of Roseville, Minn. and George Meyer of Eureka Springs, Ark. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Debby Bradley officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Trenton Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church or the Pierce County Historical Association. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
