Jean Anne (Bird) Cook

October 12, 1926 — December 2, 2013

Jean A. Cook (Bird), age 87, of Red Wing died Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Brigid's at Hi Park. She was born October 12, 1926 in Minneapolis to Edgar and Madeline (Bjerke) Paulson. Jean attended high school in Caldonia, MN and also attended Hamline University. She moved to Red Wing with her family in 1945. Jean was employed for many years by the Goodhue County National Bank, where she worked as a teller and later in the investment center, alongside her first husband, Dick Bird, who was Vice President. Through the years she had developed many friendships in Red Wing with customers at the bank, bowling league, bridge club, March of Dimes, Cub Scouts, VFW, American Legion, and more. Jean had a love for children and friends and was affectionately known as "Gramma Jean" by many, even if she was not your actual grandma. Jean was an avid duck hunter, member for many years of the Red Wing Wildlife League, and was married to two presidents, Dick and Don.

Jean is survived by her son Michael Bird and friend Nancy Holmgren of Red Wing; grandchildren, Matthew (Morgin) Bird, Jacob (Jessika) Bird, Alicia Bird, and Zachary Miller; great grandchild, Mabel Bird; two step-daughters, Evelyn Curtiss of Eureka, MT and Nancy Deden of Missoula, MT; brother, Robert Paulson of Prescott, WI; sister, Sondra Huble of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Madeline Paulson, two husbands, Richard "Dick" Bird and Donald Cook; and two brothers, John Paulson and Tom Paulson.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Wildlife League. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
