Jean Marie Burke, age 57, of Red Wing, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 10th, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic – Methodist Hospital in Rochester, due to complications of a recent diagnosis, Amyloidosis and Multiple Myeloma.
Jean was born on September 6, 1963 to Bud and Mary (Kasel) Burke. She grew up in Red Wing, attended Red Wing Central High School and graduated in 1982. After high school, Jean worked briefly at Food Bonanza and then was lucky enough to become a nanny for 22 years. When the kids she took care of grew up, Jean embarked on a new adventure and started her own business caring for the elderly. She thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of her ladies. She had the special, caring touch that will be missed by all.
Jean loved staying active and enjoyed the outdoors. She loved hiking the bluffs of Red Wing with her hiking group, walking with her friends, and kayaking. She loved a good bloody mary or shot of tequila while she watched football, especially when cheering on the Vikings. Her favorite time of the year was lake time up north with her family and also her annual trip with wonderful friends, the Cumberland Floaties. Jean kept everyone around her thoroughly entertained with her amazing sense of humor. She made life fun and there was never a minute that you weren’t laughing hysterically with Jean. She never had her own children, but she was a wonderful aunt to her six nieces and nephews. She was a kind, loving friend, sister, and daughter who will be missed dearly.
Jean is survived by her mother, Mary Burke; siblings, Gary (Joyce) Burke, Mike Burke, Joan Gray and Sue (Mike) Haydon; nieces, Kinzie Burke, Kacey Burke, Taylor Burke, and Esme Haydon; nephews, Max Haydon, and Justin Burke; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Bud Burke.
A visitation will be 2 – 4 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. A private family service will be held.
Please celebrate Jean in any way you know how that would bring you joy, whether it’s toasting her with a bloody mary, cheering on the Vikings, hiking a bluff, or just laughing with friends and family, know that she is there in spirit with you.
Fish on Jean. We will see you again someday.
