Jennings Bernard (Harp) Thorie, age 83, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Fairview Seminary Home. He was born March 30, 1923, in Red Wing, the son of William and Dagny (Holt) Thorie. He was a 1941 graduate of Red Wing Central High School and served in the U.S. Army from May 20, 1942 to December 22, 1945, with the 147th Infantry in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. For forty-two years, he worked for Chicago Great Western then Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1984. He married Mary Lou Hutchson on September 21, 1946, in Red Wing. They lived on Trenton Island prior to moving to Red Wing in 1994. They also spent time at their summer place on the Holcombe flowage in Wisconsin and two months in the winter in Texas. He enjoyed fishing and served as a guide for the Wisconsin Governor?s opener one year. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54 and the railroad union. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; two sons, William (Luba) Thorie of Hudson, WI, and Kevin (Elizabeth) Thorie of Boyceville, WI; two granddaughters, Andrea (John) Gregerson and Nicole (Matt) Burchill; and one sister, Wilma Nadeau of New London, MN. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Herbert, Harold and Wendell Thorie. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services Friday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
