Janis Meredith Woods

Janis Meredith Hanisch Woods, 86 of Red Wing died Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Seminary Home. She was born on September 28, 1928 in Red Wing to Carl and Jeanette (Johnson) Eckstrom. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1946. On June 14, 1949 she married William "Cot" Hanisch. They lived in Red Wing and to this union they had three children. Cot died on January 13, 1975. On September 23, 1978 she married Jack Woods. They lived in Wacouta. Jack died on October 16, 2010. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed water skiing, swimming, fishing and being with her family, especially all her grandchildren.

Survivors include three children, Knute (Melinda Harris) of Hager City, Bill (Linda) Hanisch of Red Wing, and Peggy (Peter) Sorensen of Red Wing; five grandchildren; Lucas (Megan) Reitan, Amanda (Donny) Mikitta; Billy Hanisch, Mike Hanisch and Kristy (Tony) Lexvold; many step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; three step - daughters, Nancy (Stan) Begley of Kona, Hawaii, Carol (Keith) Berres of Milwaukee, Wis., and Donna Marks of Sartell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William and Jack and one brother, Ronald.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Arthur Sharot officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Red Wing Elks Club. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church, Mayo Hospice in Red Wing or the Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund. Online condolences may be sent to www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
