Janice "Ma Carp" Ellen Carpenter, 76, of Red Wing died Friday, July 4, 2014 at her home. She was born June 6, 1938 to Ernest and Inez (VanGuilder) Seegert in Red Wing. She attended Red Wing schools and married Duane Carpenter June 12, 1956 in Ellsworth. They lived in Beldenville for 12 years before moving to Red Wing. They later divorced. She worked for 23 years at Durkee-Atwood until 1991 when she became disabled. She was a member of the Red Wing Presbyterian church where she had taught Sunday school and Bible school. She later joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Redmen Club in Red Wing and Pioneer Club in Goodhue and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. She enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling, crocheting, bingo and playing cards, especially Euchre.
She is survived by three sons, Ricky (Lori) Carpenter, Rocky (Tammy) and Ronnie (Tam) Carpenter of Red Wing; daughter, Patricia (Dale) Swanson of Red Wing; and 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister Nancy Olson. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Martha Mathews; brother-in-law, Rodney Mathews; special friend, Louis Erie.
Funeral service will be 2pm, Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church.
