James Arthur Winch, 66 of Red Wing, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends Thursday, July 31, 2014 at his home. He was born February 7, 1948 in Winnebago, Minnesota to Gordon and Alice (Diegnau) Winch. He attended Mankato High School, graduating in 1966. He was on the road crew for the bands 19th Amendment and Crow. On June 8, 1985, he married Mary Williams. He made his living working as a sky cap at the airport, for Cenex and for Tennis Maintenance. In 1992, his family moved to Red Wing where he purchased Ripley's Rental, which he owned and operated until his death. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Alano Society and the Bay City Alanon and AA. In his spare time he enjoyed motorcycling, especially Harley's, blues music, cooking, travelling, and collecting Harley memorabilia. For the past 5 years, he and Mary wintered in Texas, and most of all, loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 29 years; four children, Jason Winch, Terri (Nicholas) Lowman, Natasha (Adam) Dohman Williams, and Ashley Winch, all of Red Wing; six grandchildren, Casey, Cayden, Kaden, Gabriel, Madeline and Annabel; one brother, Dennis Winch of Mankato; nieces and nephews, Nathan, Jessie, Martha, Jamie, and Andrew; and sister-in-law, Lisa (Lenny) Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his son, Spencer; parents; father and mother-in-law, James and Leila Williams; and sister-in-law, Joanne Williams.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Tom Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Reception to follow at the Mississippi Valley Alano Society in Bay City. Memorials are preferred to the family.
