James Patrick Williams, 71, of Farmington, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing. He was born October 18, 1941 in Minneapolis to Richard and Mary (Gurtek) Williams. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Leonard Lamphire and he farmed for a number of years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 where he served until he was honorably discharged in 1962. On July 21, 1962 he married Leila Jane Burton at St. Francis Methodist Church in St. Francis, Minn. The couple lived in Farmington for 30 years. He retired after 40 years with UPS. Leila died October 5, 2004. For a number of years he spent his winters in McAllen, Texas. He enjoyed camping in Owatonna and traveling.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary (James) Winch of Red Wing and Lisa (Lenny) Burgess of St. Francis; six grandchildren, Jason Winch, Terri (Nick)Lowman, Natasha Williams, Jamie (Justin) Opheim, Ashley Winch and Andrew Tagg; seven great grandchildren, Casey, Andy, Kaden, Cayden, Gabriel, Madeline and Annabelle; two sisters, Madeline Trunnel and Linda (James) Copeland of St. Louis Park and one brother, Leonard (Wanda) Lamphire of Pine City. He is preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Joanne Williams; grandson, Spencer; a sister and a brother.
A visitation will be from 1 - 4 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel in Red Wing. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
