James Floyd Thacker, 84 of Red Wing, formerly of Columbia, South Carolina, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing. He was born December 31, 1929 in Beloit, Kansas, son of James Lloyd Thacker and Mary Faye Kulhman. He grew up in Denver, Colorado and North Platte, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1948. He then entered the Navy where he served from October 27, 1948 to October 10, 1952. James started working odd jobs, and then in 1953, he married Annette Cullen in North Platte. In 1965, the couple moved to Red Wing, where they raised their children. He began working for Meyer Industries as an engineer. In 1973, he moved to Rochester, MN where he worked for Crenlo as a mechanical engineer. James retired in 1995 and moved to Columbia, South Carolina. He was an avid boater, and made custom fishing poles. He also enjoyed reading.
James is survived by his children, Mary Belobaba of Brooklyn Park, Christopher (Lenore) Thacker of Hager City, WI, and Nancy (Todd) Kramer of Chisago City, MN; grandchildren, Joshua Thacker of Minneapolis, Jeremy Thacker of Hager City, Fernando and Alfredo Belobaba both of Brooklyn Park, Matthew and Megan Kramer of Chisago City; one brother, John Thacker of Kimball, Nebraska; and bunches of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and wife, Annette.
Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Deacon Pat Evans Presiding. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the National Parkinson Foundation.
