James Patrick Stewart, 39, Red Wing, died Saturday in Red Wing. He was born April 27, 1968 in Red Wing, the son of Gerald "Jerry" and Sandra (Miller) Stewart. He attended Burnside, Sunnyside and Red Wing High School. He worked as a cook at the St. James Hotel, Pizza Hut, Treasure Island Resort and Casino and most recently as a chef at Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill. He was married to Luann Nygren for nine years and they later divorced. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, nature, writing and spending time with family, friends, his pets and writing poems.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald "Jerry" (Karen) Stewart of Red Wing and Sandra Gehrke of Madison, Wisconsin; four sisters: Lisa (Robert) Miller of Lake City, Tiffany, Kara and Brianna Stewart, all of Red Wing; his fiance, Pam Knowles of Red Wing; two nieces; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parternal grandparents, Lyle and Sarah Stewart; his maternal grandparents, Herb and Theresa Ellingson; one aunt, Helen Stewart, three uncles, Alfred, Charles and George Stewart.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at New River Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Landmark officiating. Burial will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
