James C. "Jim" Ray, age 28 of St. Paul, formerly of Mazeppa died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his residence in St. Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa with Father Joseph Fogal and Monsignor Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery Visitation will be on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
James Christopher Ray was born on June 25, 1987 in Robbinsdale, MN to Christopher and Roberta (nee Carpenter) Ray. He grew up in Mazeppa and graduated from Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School in 2005. Jim attended and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Mendota Heights.
Jim worked for Aramark and Sodexco Food Service. He also worked at Five Course Catering in Hayward, WI with his father and did catering in the Twin Cities with his friend Tré. Jim loved nature and being outdoors, cooking, and spending time with his family, especially his young nephews and cousins. He also enjoyed soccer, gardening, music and concerts, traveling and fine dining. Jim volunteered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and served as the "Honorary Chef" at their fundraisers. He also attended and facilitated AA meetings. Jim was known as a kind and gentle soul with a lovely spirit for life and nature.
Jim is survived by his parents, Bobbi and Mark Losure of Mazeppa and Christopher and Karen Ray of Hayward, WI; brothers, Jake (fiancée Kelli Boraas) Ray of Red Wing and Zachary Ray of Hayward, WI; sisters, Cherie (John) Jaeger of Hayward, WI and Monique Ray of Hayward, WI; aunts, Barb (Tony) Pollack, Becky (Wilson) Walker, Theresa Ray and Eileen (Larry) Williams; uncles, Joe Carpenter, Reed (Lou) Carpenter, Jim (Barb) Carpenter and Jim (Aracelys) Ray, along with numerous cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bob and Florence Carpenter; paternal grandparents, James and Audrey Ray; uncle, Scott Carpenter and aunt, Debra Ray.
