James Robert Murphy, 74 of Rochester, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel with Rev. Bruce Buller officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel and for one hour prior to the service. James Robert Murphy was born on October 25, 1932 in Spring Valley, MN to William and Leone (Radke) Murphy. He was raised in St. Charles and attended St. Charles schools. James worked on several farms in the St. Charles and Dover area. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, James relocated to Rochester and married Janice Stensrud on June 22, 1956 in Rochester. He worked for 15 years for the Olmsted County Highway Department. In 1966, James began his career as a heavy equipment operator with Rochester Sand & Gravel, retiring in 1992. James enjoyed working in his garage, yardwork and woodworking. James is survived by his wife, Janice; three children, Cindy Murphy of Rochester, Mike Murphy of Kasson and Pam Murphy of Mantorville; 4 granddaughters; a brother, Gerald Murphy of Rochester and a sister, Sharon Boyum of Byron. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Murphy and a sister, Patty Schwartz.
