James “Jim” Albin Larson, 87, of Hager City, Wisconsin, died Friday, April 18, 2025 at Ellsworth Health Services.
He was born September 16, 1937 in Plum City to Harold and Beatrice (Wahlund) Larson. Following his graduation from Plum City High School in 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the area and worked for 11 years at the SB Foot Tannery in Red Wing. He married Sally Johnson on May 31, 1958 at Lund Mission Covenant Church and they lived in Hager City. In 1966, they moved to Esdaile where they enjoyed their hobby farm for 42 years.
After his time at the Tannery, he worked for Jim Miller Construction until 1976 when he began his career as a bridge inspector for Pierce County. He retired in 2000.
Throughout his life, he had been a member of Sabylund, Svea and Eidsvold Lutheran Churches. Jim enjoyed woodworking. In his later years, he enjoyed making wooden toys. He loved to fish. He often camped up north in his trailer in Amery, Wisconsin. He was an avid Badger and Packer Fan and he loved a good game of Buck Euchre. Jim was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather and he made sure all of his grandkids learned to fish. He loved helping people and had a knack for getting along with almost anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; sons, Michael (Shelly) and Chris Larson; daughters, Susan (Jon Gersh) Larson and Stacy Crownhart; grandchildren, Joel Larson, Holly (Brian) Larson, Mitchell Crownhart, Joshua Gersh and Ben Gersh; 5 great-grandchildren, Celina Ries, Sienna Larson, Mylah Crownhart, and Aidan D’Amato; brothers, Dennis (Carol) Larson and Larry Larson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Larson; brothers-in-law, John Swedien and Tom Johnson; sister-in-law Carol A. Larson; mother and father-in-law, Loren and Wanda Johnson; and his parents.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2025 at Eidsvold Lutheran Church with Rev. Alex Aakre officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Ellsworth Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Esdaile Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
