OBITUARY: James R. Kunz

Funeral service for James R. Kunz will be at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Reverend Kip Groettum and Reverend John Torris Lohre co-officiating. Casketbearers will be his grandchildren: Active bearers will be Kevin Budensiek, Mike, Brad, David, Scott, Brady, Jeff, Jacob, Mark, Wayne and Matt Kunz. Honorary bearers will be Shane, Brittany, Bryce, Broghen, Briley, Becky, Brandon, Jessica, Lucas, Anna, Rick, Andy and Jessica. Burial will follow in the Pine Island Cemetery.

Jim, age 79, of West Concord died on Monday, January 19, 2009 at his residence. He was born Jimmie Richard Kunz on October 6, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Milford and Bertha (Olson) Kunz. He attended school in Wisconsin while living with his aunt. Jim moved to the Pine Island area in 1946 and worked for area farmers. On June 11, 1950, he married Doris Archer in rural Pine Island and, following their marriage, the couple began farming in the West Concord area. They moved to the Berne area in 1957, retired in 1986 and continued living there to the present. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening and Doris's cooking.

Jim is survived by his wife, Doris, of West Concord; five sons: Jerry (Shelly), Dale (Debbie), Leslie (Christine) all of Pine Island, Dennis (Brenda), Dan "Joe" (Kelly), of West Concord; one daughter, Diane (Scott) Budensiek, of Zumbrota; twenty-four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Jack (Shirley) of San Jose, CA, Jerry, of San Francisco, CA; one sister, Margaret (Richard) Burgess, of Pine Island. His parents, Milford and Bertha, and one son, Larry, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 5-8PM on Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
