James Vincent Klann

A memorial service for James Klann will be held on Wednesday September 1st at 2:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The Reverend Bruce Buller will officiate. Burial, with military honors provided by the American Legion of Pine Island, will follow at Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas. Mr. Klann, 84, of Rochester, died Tuesday August 24, 2010 at his home.

James Vincent Klann was born March 21, 1926 in Rochester to Henry and Edna (Vincent) Klann. He was raised in Douglas, attending elementary school there, and he attended high school in Pine Island. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. From 1944 to 1946, Jim served with the 9th Air Force in the European Theater as a gunner on a B-24 Liberator, the "Corporal." After his discharge, he operated a bar and gas station in Pine Island with his father. He worked for Marigold Dairy in Rochester as a Foreman in the shipping department from 1965 until his retirement in 1989. On October 17, 1953 he married Irene Abby at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. She died on March 31, 2002. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 184, in Pine Island for more than fifty years. Jim enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his two daughters, Margot Klann and Patty Belton, both of Lawrence, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Keshia, Katrina, Meaghan, and James Belton. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bernice Klann, and Betty Post; and a son-in-law, John Belton.
