James D. Johnson

James Donald Johnson, 78, of Red Wing, now living in Cannon Falls, died Sunday, December 31st, 2017, at his home in Cannon Falls, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on June 5th, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Donald and Elaine (Plote) Johnson. He attended schools in St. Paul and later his family moved to Red Wing and he graduated from Red Wing Central High School, Class of 1957. Jim went on to serve in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in March of 1965. Jim married his first wife, Jacquelyn Ann Earney, on July 18th, 1959, in Frontenac. Jackie passed away on December, 21st, 1985. He then married Sharon Swanson on August 29th, 1987. For the next 30 years, Jim and Sharon devoted their lives in raising their families together. Jim was a well-respected, self-employed, floor covering technician serving the local communities and area stores. He loved his work and took pride in providing quality floor installation, and service. In 1993, Jim formed River City Floor Coverings with his stepson, Jason Swanson. Together, they continued to service Red Wing and local communities with high quality flooring products and services. Jim was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He made many trips to Canada, northern Minnesota and Wisconsin with family and friends over the years. Jim's love and knowledge of sports was consistently displayed through his kids and grandkids supporting numerous events over his lifetime. In the end, Jim was at peace surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children; Pamela (John) Friedrich, Red Wing, Angela (Dirk) Raebel, Fulton, Missouri, Mitchell (Emily) Johnson, White Bear Lake; step-children; Jason (Angela) Swanson, Jon (Michelle) Swanson, Cindy (Bob) Bodin, all of Red Wing and Katie (Jason) Lindmeyer, of Woodbury; grandchildren; Jackie, Michael, Alexis, Jaden, Ava, Ella, Shara, Ryan, Bailey, Kendal, Brittany (Jesse), Brooke and five great-grandchildren; siblings Phillip Johnson, of St. Paul, Brian (Allison) Johnson, Gilby, Arizona; and Teresa (Rick) Schafer, White Bear Lake. He was proceeded in death by his parents and first wife Jackie; and two brothers, Richard (Dick) and Paul.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 30370 Hardwood Way, Cannon Falls, with Pastor Tim Banks officiating. Burial will at the Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 4th, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and also one hour prior to the service at church.
