James J. Ferber

October 28, 1929 — February 27, 2014

James J. Ferber, age 84, of Pine Island formerly of Mazeppa died on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oronoco Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

James John Ferber was born on October 28, 1929 in Rochester, MN to Louis and Emma (nee Mueske) Ferber. He grew up in rural Mazeppa, attended country school and graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1948. Jim started farming with his parents. On March 15, 1965 he married Marliss L. Mueske in Santa Fe, NM. They made their home on the Ferber family farm. In 1967 Jim started working the evening custodial shift and building maintenance at the Mayo Clinic and he retired from the Mayo Clinic in 1991. While working for the Mayo Clinic, Jim continued to farm and retired from farming in the early 1990's. Jim was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Rochester and St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bus trips and attending the fish/steak fry dinners at the VFW.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Lori Ferber of Rochester; brother, Dale (Sherrie) Ferber of Mazeppa; sisters-in-law, Fern Ferber of Pine Island and Dori Mueske of Park Rapids; brother-in-law, Steve (Jane) Mueske of Pine Island; special friend and companion, Darlene Koenig of Zumbrota and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Marliss on April 21, 1992, parents, Louis and Emma and brother, Arnold Ferber.
