Funeral services for James Elliott will be held Thursday December 4th at 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. The Rev. Michael Wheeler will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Elliott, 90, of Rochester, died Sunday November 30, 2008 at his home in Rochester.
James Carman Elliott was born October 25, 1918 in Newcastle, Wyoming. Raised on a ranch in Weston County, Wyoming, he entered the US Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Nashville. He was honorably discharged at the conclusion of World War II. He returned to his job at Red Owl in Newcastle. He worked with that grocery retailing chain for 32 years at various locations in Western and Midwestern states. He married Norene Anderson in 1961 in Austin, Minnesota. Following his move to Rochester, and after his years with Red Owl, he purchased some gas stations and other income property, including the Maxwell Guest House for more than twenty years. He continued to own income property to the present day. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester.
Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, Norene, of Rochester; four sons, Gordon (Beverly) Elliott of Pittsburgh, Kansas, Tod Elliott of Portland, Oregon, Chad Elliott of Minneiska, Minnesota, and David (Lisa) Elliott of Rochester; two daughters, Jeanne Lyons of Eugene, Oregon, and Paula Elliott of New York City; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgia Balew; and a brother, Don Elliott. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home � Rochester Chapel. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
