PINE ISLAND � The Funeral Mass for James K. "Jim" Brogan will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island with Rev. Timothy Dolan officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Brogan, 62, a retired Pine Island area farmer, died Friday (July 6, 2007) in a fishing accident in Northwest Ontario, Canada.

Born June 25, 1945 in Rochester to Paul and Marguerite (Keller) Brogan, he was raised on the family farm and attended Saratoga Country School, St. Charles Catholic, and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1963. He farmed with his father for a few years. He married Diane Ostendorf on June 4, 1966 in Spring Valley. Mrs. Brogan works at the Olmsted Medical Center in Pine Island. After marriage the couple farmed with his father for four years before moving to rural Pine Island where he farmed until retiring in 2005. He was a salesman for Golden Harvest Seed Co. and was named Dealer of the Year. After retiring he continued to help his son Mike farm, he worked with his son Chris at the Greenway Co-op, and did trucking. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was an usher and served on the Cemetery Board. He also served as a New Haven Township Supervisor, the Pine Island Farmers Co-op Elevator Board, and was a District Officer for AMPI of Rochester. He was active in Future Farmers of America receiving the FFA Star Chapter Farmer Degree from St. Charles Chapter, received the FFA American Farmer Degree in 1966, was a FFA State Farmer, and received the FFA Distinguished Service Award from the Pine Island Chapter. He was active in 4-H in Winona County and received the Minnesota 4-H Key Award, and was a 4-H leader in Pine Island. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer award from the Pine Island Jaycees, the Olmsted County Outstanding Conservation Farmer Award, and received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting Turkey and Deer, Belgian Horses, and going to Coffee every Morning.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Mike (Jude) of Pine Island; and Chris (Leah) of Mantorville; grandchildren Mary Ann, Kristi, Kaylea, and Reggie Brogan, and Ben and Justin Lynde, great grandchildren, Jaden, and Laurel; his parents Paul and Marguerite of St. Charles; two sisters Charlene (Fran) Kronebusch of Utica, MN; and Pat (Jim) Parlin of Austin, MN; and two brothers Gerard (Lila) and John (Ann) both of St. Charles. His son Pat and granddaughter Angela preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home -Mahler Chapel in Pine Island where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Parish Prayer service, and one hour before the service at the church.
