James R. Boxrud

James Robert Boxrud, age 68 of Red Wing, died unexpectedly after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Jim was born a twin on July 5, 1941 to Edward and Mayme (Diercks) Boxrud in Red Wing. He grew up in Goodhue and graduated from Goodhue High School in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1959 and served his country for three years until being honorably discharged in 1962. He returned home after serving in the military and went to work at the Red Wing Shoe Company. On September 18, 1965, Jim married Judy Hadler at the Bear Valley Church in Mazeppa and the couple lived in Red Wing. He then went to work at Hughes Shoes and in 1978 he and Rod Hauschildt purchased the business and operated it until retiring in 2008. Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, fishing, watching Gophers and Vikings football, and going to his lake home in Amery, Wisconsin. Jim was a member of the Mississippi National Golf Links, Elks BPOE #845, Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Jim was an active member in the community serving in the past on the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Downtown Council, and he had served on the Bergwall Arena development and finance committees.

Jim is survived by his wife Judy of Red Wing; son Jeffrey (Lucy) Boxrud of Red Wing; daughter Melissa Carlson of Red Wing; grandchildren, Emily, Natalie, Jack, Abby, and Joey; sister Jeanne Lodermeier of Lake City; brother, Edward (Betty) of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cassandra; twin sister, Janice; brothers, Robert, John, Milfred, and Dave.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and also for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
