James a. Bechel age 77 of Lake City died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Lake City Nursing Home. James was born November 19, 1928 in Plum City, WI to Anton & Julia (Schmidt) Bechel. He grew up in the Plum City area. He joined the Army in 1949 and served during the Korean War and was discharged in 1952. Jim married Violet Stewart May 23, 1952 in Wabasha, MN. After they were married they lived in Red Wing, MN, New London, WI, Lake City and Frontenac. They retired to Bloomer, WI until returning to Lake City in 2003.He retired from J.P. Industries now Federal Mogul in Lake City in 1990 after 31 years of services. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lake City, VFW Post 8729 of Lake City, Wells Creek Riders Snowmobile Club, and Channel Rattler CB Club. He loved wood working, sending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and camping, snowmobiling, and playing card games on the computer. He is survived by his wife, two sons Alan of Hawkins, WI, Scott of St. Louis Park, MN; one daughter, Shelley King of Burnsville, MN; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Janis) of Oregon, IL; four sisters, Helen Steffenhagen of Red Wing, Wanda Carothers of Pepin, WI, Bernetta (Dennis) Poore of Wabasha, MN, Mildred Wood of Lake City, MN. He was preceded in death by a son Steven, parents and four brothers, Willard, Alfred, Leonard, and Lyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11:00 am. at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lake City with Father James Russell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church. Military Rites will be by VFW Post 8729 & American Legion Post 110 of Lake City.
