J. Lindy Anderson, 86, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 16, 1930 in Welch to Hjalmer and Edla (Sward) Anderson. He attended school in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1951. Lindy then worked for the Northern Pacific Rail Road until 1953. He married Marilyn Johnson on October 3, 1953. They then moved to Moorhead where he attend Hanson's Diesel and Machinery Trade School. He graduated in 1954 and they moved to Red Wing. He started his own business Lindy Trucking and began hauling milk from the Welch Creamery to Stillwater. He worked there until his retirement in 2005. Lindy was a great father keeping his children busy. In the winter months, he would flood an ice skating rink across the street and in the summer, it was a ball field for the neighborhood. Lindy loved bowling, golf and spending time on his boats on the Relief and Kermit. Most of all he loved his family and bringing everyone together and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Elks BPOE 845, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Leo C. Peterson #54.
Lindy is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; four children, Daniel (Shellee), Tim (Deb) both of Red Wing, Sue (Charlie) Friedrich of Wacouta and Jeff (Missy) of Welch; nine grandchildren, Allison (Dexter) Benway, Nate (Kayla) Anderson, Matt (Nellie) Anderson, John Friedrich, Ryan (Lindsay) Anderson, Thomas (Shauna) Friedrich, Austin Anderson, Jay Friedrich and Elle Anderson; as well as seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Linnea Hinrichs, Arlie, Donald, and Marlowe Anderson and Lorraine Flynn.
Memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2016 at First Lutheran Church with the Reverend Arthur Sharot officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at Elks Lodge in Red Wing.
