Ivan Clarence Flater

Ivan Clarence Flater, age 80, of Lake City, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City. He was born July 6, 1932 in Grundy County, Iowa to Ben and Lulu (Coners) Flater. He attended country schools through 8th grade and then attended Grundy Center High School and graduated in 1950. He worked for a couple of years after high school until entering the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. On July 2, 1953 he married Eunice Getting in Grundy Center, IA. After being discharged from the Navy Ivan moved back to Grundy Center, IA, where he worked for Grundy County Maintenance Department as an equipment operator for 30 years until retiring. He was volunteer fireman in Grundy Center for 27 years. After retiring Ivan and Eunice spent their summers in Lake City, MN and their winters in Pharr, TX. He was a member of United Meithodist Church, American Legion and a lifetime member of the Am Vets. Ivan enjoyed hunting pheasants and rabbits, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Lake City; son, Larry (Dianna) of Lake City; two granddaughters Stephanie (Darren) Luepke of Lakeville, MN and Sarah (Matt) Stradtmann of Kasson, MN; brother, Marlyn (Reka) Flater of Waterloo, IA; sister, MaryLou (Bob) Grimmius of Grundy Center, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; and brother, Darrel Flater

Funeral Service will be 1p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at United Methodist Church in Lake City with Reverend Kristine Marshall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 5 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, IA. with a reception following at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.
