Irvin N. Berg, age 91, of Zumbrota, died on Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on March 30, 1922, in Zumbrota, to Anton and Emma (Rolland) Berg. He attended country school through the eighth grade when he started to help on his uncle's farm. On October 20, 1942, Irvin entered the U.S. Army. On February 14, 1946 he was honorably discharged and he returned to the St. Paul area. On March 10, 1946 he married Constance Sattler in St. Paul. The couple moved to Rochester where they worked at the local Snack Shop. Irvin began his carpentry career in St. Paul and attended training at St. Paul Technical College. In 1950, the couple moved to Zumbrota where they built and made their lifelong home, at which time he began working at Kruse Lumber Company in Rochester where he retired after 35 years.
Irvin enjoyed woodworking and restoring antiques, bus and train tours, and going to the family cabin for over 20 years. He was an avid walker, and was an active blood donor for the Red Cross where he donated over 10 gallons. Irvin especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church and currently attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund. Irvin was also a member of the Carpenters Union for over 63 years, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Irvin is survived by his children, Wayne (Jenni) Berg of Rochester, James (Maria) Wilkes of Richfield, Jennifer (Burt) Fick of Lake City, Marcia (Rick) Lund of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Sheila (Chuck) Burfield, Matthew Berg, Martin Berg, Jason Wilkes, Tegan Wilkes, Joshua (Nicole) Wilkes, Jacob (Michelle) Fick, Anthony (Jill) Fick, Lucas Fick; great-grandchildren, Riley and Megan Burfield, Kaden Wilkes, Taylor, Alyssa, and Brody Fick, Lauren and Kolten Fick; sister, Irene Crawford of Huntley, IL; sister-in-law, Verna Berg of Pine Island; and special friend, Mabel Holst of Zumbrota.
Irvin was preceded in death by his wife Constance, who died on July 29,1992; brother, Arthur Berg; sisters, Judy St. George, Ovida Beasley, and Dorothy Johnson.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund with Pastor Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in Lands Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
