Irene Elsie Rieck, 96, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic- Methodist Hospital. She was born May 21, 1927, to Edwin and Elsie (Palmer) Bade. She attended rural schools. On July 20, 1943, she married Arnold Rieck at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac. They moved to Bay City in 1954 and farmed until 1977. Irene then worked as a cook at different restaurants and retired from Bev’s Café in the early 2000s. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac and was also involved with the ladies’ aid at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Esdaile. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing euchre, and was a member of the 500 club. Most of all, she loved babysitting her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Rieck of Bay City, and LuAnn (Doug Pfingsten) Dahl of Ellsworth; seven grandchildren, Jason (Nandi) Rieck, Brian (Rachel) Rieck, Tricia Rieck, Nathan Rieck, Jon (Shannon) Dahl, Kari (Will) Schroeder, and Cole (Jesika) Kuesel; seven great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Lauren, Baylie, Cameron, Rylie, Reggie, Elliot, and one great-great-grandchild, due in April; one sister-in-law, Connie Rieck of Ellsworth along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; two sons, Rolland and Rodney; one daughter, Laurel Studer; two brothers and five sisters.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Eidsvold Lutheran Church with Pastor Alex Aaker officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
