Irene Evelyn Jensen

Irene E. Jensen, age 96, of Rochester, died Sunday (May 6, 2012) at the Stewartville Care Center where she had resided since February.
Irene Evelyn Mathison was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Fountain, MN to Sam and Millie (Grimley) Mathison. She was adopted at age four by Gust and Bertha Severud of Fountain. She graduated from Preston High School in 1932. On July 20, 1935 she married Vernon J. Specht, they were later divorced. She married Carl. P. Jensen on July 19, 1946, Carl died in June of 1972. Irene worked in the Central Appointment Desk at the Mayo Clinic for 28 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Homestead United Methodist Church. Irene enjoyed her many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and her many travels, particularly her casino trips.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (Curtis) Ladsten, and JoAnn Drummond, both of Rochester; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. Her husband, son, infant daughter, grandson, sister, and parents preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Homestead United Methodist Church with Jane Day officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
