Irene Furchner

Irene Gladys Furchner, 73, of Tucson, Arizona, and formerly of Red Wing, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at her son?s home in rural Lake City. She was born November 5, 1932, in Leon Township near Cannon Falls, to Orval and Gladys (Larson) Young. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1950, and received her practical nursing license from Miller Hospital in St. Paul and then worked at St. Luke?s Hospital in St. Paul. She married Roland Furchner on June 23, 1953, in Nashua, Iowa. She worked for Miller Hospital prior to moving to Red Wing in 1960. She worked for the City Hospital, St. John?s Hospital, Red Wing Health Center and Hi-Park Care Center. In 2001, she and Roland moved to Tucson, Arizona. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church where she was involved with The Befrienders? ministry; served on the board of directors for Christian Women and a member of the Eastern Star. A past member of the Mississippi National Golf Links, she enjoyed sewing, gardening and watching hockey,She is survived by her husband, Roland of Tucson; 4 sons, Robert (Sue) Furchner of Red Wing; Dennis (Jeanie) Furchner of Lake City; Gene and Michael Furchner both of Red Wing; 10 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Leroy (Caroline) Young of Norwood Young America, John (Betty) Young of Henderson , AZ, Lowell (Judy) Young of Red Wing and Richard (Sandy) Beckman of Tucson, AZ; 3 sisters, Rose Ann (Lewis)Powers of Bay City; Jeannette Nelson of Hager City and Vicky (Rory) Golden of Red Wing. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Paul Furchner. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. A private burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
