Ione T. Kittelson, age 98, of Goodhue died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Zumbrota Health Services. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 3, at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue with Father Randal Kasal officiating. Burial will be in St. Columbkill Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Sunday, October 2, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and Monday for one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Ione Tri was born on October 14, 1917 on the family farm in Goodhue Township, Goodhue County, MN to Joseph and Beatrice (nee Bearson) Tri. She grew up on the farm, attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1937. On June 22, 1937 she married Clarence E. Kittelson at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island. They lived in several different communities. In the early 1940's they moved to Portland, OR to work in the shipyards. After four years in Portland, they moved to Hastings, MN. In 1953 they took over the Kittelson farm and together they farmed for many years. Ione was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its WCC, Goodhue Senior Citizens and American Legion Post #588 Auxiliary in Mazeppa. Ione enjoyed bowling, gardening and raising flowers, fishing and attending sporting events.
Ione is survived by her sons, Merlin (Diane) Kittelson of White Bear Lake, Joseph (Norma) Kittelson of Chandler, AZ, Thomas (Marlys) Kittelson of Sauk Centre, James Kittelson of Wanamingo, Kelvin (Beverly) Kittelson of Brainerd, David Kittelson of Palmetto, FL and Roger Kittelson of Minneapolis; daughters, Diana Kittelson of Minneapolis, Sandra (Michael) Dols of Minneapolis, Linda Kittelson of Tucson, AZ, Teresa (John) Sutton of Lincoln, MT and Ruth Ann (Rich) Allen of New London, WI; son-in-law, Gary Andrist of Rochester; thirty five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Carol Kittelson; daughter, Roberta Andrist; sister, Elaine and brother, Delbert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association, Lions Club or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
