Ida Marie Benson, age 83, of Wanamingo died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The memorial service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund, 42957 County 1 Blvd., Kenyon with Pastor Martin Horn and Pastor Jon Benson co-officiating. Inurnment will be in Palmville Cemetery in Wannaska, MN at a later date. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ida Marie Eggen was born on June 2, 1930 in Faith, South Dakota to Morris and Ella (nee Satre) Eggen. Ida's father was a minister and she lived in many communities as she was growing up. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in Fargo, ND and then attended Augsburg College for two years. Ida Marie taught in New Folden for two years and Skime for two years. On December 6, 1952 she married Robert M. Benson in Wannaska, MN. While raising her family, she completed her bachelor's degree in education at Winona State University. She taught elementary school in the Wastedo and Cannon Falls School Districts for thirty years, retiring in 1995. Ida Marie was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund, where she was active in Sunday school, ladies aid and singing. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, traveling, reading and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ida Marie is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Linda (Greg) Pippert of Fullerton, CA, Jeffrey (Linda) Benson of Wanamingo, Daniel (Janell) Benson of Centennial, CO, and Jon (Jeannette) Benson of Janesville, WI; grandchildren, Bryce (Katherine), Berent (Janice), Brett (Kristin), Jason (Emily), Kyle (McKenzie), Michelle (Hartvig), Kevin (Natalya), Brian (Jenn), Marie, Andrew and Caleb (Cassie); great-grandchildren, Viggy, Trisha, Ava, Charlie and Wynn; sister, Elaine Rehbein of Los Altos, CA. Ida Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Ella; sisters, Ardys and Audrey; brothers, Morris, Carston and Kenneth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Marie Sandvik Center in Minneapolis.
