Hubart A. Cass, 83, of Red Wing, died Thursday at Fairview University Medical Center. He was born on February 1, 1923 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Charles and Lois Cass. He graduated from Brainerd High School. On August 16, 1943 he married Mavis Cromett in Pine River. He served in the US Army during World War II. After his discharge they lived in St. Cloud, West St. Paul and then Red Wing where he worked for the American News Company until its closing. For a few years he worked for Cliff Zibble Insurance and then worked as a mail carrier for the Red Wing Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54, Wildlife League, Shriners and a leader for Boy Scout Troop #31. He enjoyed boating, bowling and golf. Survivors include his wife, Mavis; two children, Charles (Joyce) Cass of Troy, Ohio and Patty Johnson of Hastings; two grandchildren, Kate (Marc) Edison and Maggie Johnson; two great grandchildren, Ronan Cass Edison and Adair Cass Edison; four siblings, Gayle (Ted) Polonus of Texas, Maxine Kobes of Oregon, Shirley Baldwin of Minneapolis, and Coleman Cass of California. He was preceded in death by one brother, Milan Cass. Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Walther officiating, Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the donor?s choice or Boy Scout Troop #31. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
