Howard Donald Lyons, 84, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, October 18th, 2010 at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Howard was born April 8th, 1926, to Ida Mae (Sheffert) and Axel (Ted) Lyons. The Lyons family grew up in Waterville, Minnesota, where Howard graduated from high school in 1944.
Howard married Florence Louise Backman, his high school sweetheart, on June 14th, 1952, and together they raised five children. The family lived in several different communities during the course of their lifetime, including Glenville, New Richland, and Kasson. Upon Howard and Florence's retirement, in 1990 they moved to their own piece of paradise in Lake City.
Howard wore many different hats during his life, butter-maker, grain elevator manager, fertilizer plant manager, fisherman, gardener, boater, and golfer, but the most important roles he filled were husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend. During his retirement, Howard became an accomplished woodcarver, and belonged to the Rochester Woodcarver's Association. He was also a member of the Lake City Kiwanis Club and of First Lutheran Church of Lake City.
Howard is survived by his wife Florence, two sons; David (Julie) Chanhassen and Robert (Paige) Farmington, two daughters; Carol Timmerman (Brad) Rochester, and Kay Klein (Jeff) Eyota, and six grandchildren, Lee and Lauren Timmerman, Zach and Aly Klein, Kelsey and Mackenzie Lyons, and one brother Arvid (Marilyn) of San Diego, CA.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary, his parents, two sisters, Lorraine Labs and Nancy Nelson, and two brothers, John and Kenneth Lyons.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Lake City (100 Peace Ridge, Lake City) with Reverend Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Thursday, October 21st, from 5:00 - 7:00 at First Lutheran Church Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Lake City.
