Hertha V. Strusz age 79 of Goodhue died on Thursday morning, September 17, 2009 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing.
Hertha Viola Schumacher was born August 28, 1930 in Ashley, North Dakota to John and Lydia (nee Schweigert) Schumacher. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1948. After graduating she moved to Minneapolis where she worked for the United States Navy as a telephone operator. Hertha enjoyed going dancing and met her future husband, Harlyn Strusz on one of her many trips to the dance hall. On October 21, 1967 they were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, where they settled down and continued to farm and raise their family. Hertha enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, and attending the Senior Group of Goodhue.
Hertha's survivors include her loving husband of 41 years, Harlyn; 2 sons, Hilbert (Paula Basham) and Howard both of Goodhue; brother, Raymond Schumacher of Ashley, ND; 3 sisters, Gertrude Thayer of Stockton, CA, Violet Knox of NE, and Alma Smith of Roseville, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Harold.
