Herman ?Andy? Anderson, 92, of Red Wing, MN, died peacefully Friday evening, December 1, 2006, at Red Wing Health Center. He was born on November 4, 1914 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Iver and Hannah (Larson) Anderson, and graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. For a number of years he worked for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland and the U.S. Department of Labor in St. Louis, Missouri. Andy served in the US Army during World War II, from March 7, 1942 until January 7, 1946. On January 7, 1947 he was married to Eleanor Shafer in San Benito, Texas. They lived in Minneapolis and Northfield before moving to Dixon, Illinois in 1955. While in Minnesota, Andy was a sales representative for Boyd Casket Company, and in Illinois served as its superintendent and plant manager until his retirement in 1979. Andy?s positive attitude, cheerful personality, and commitment to service to others made him many friends. His enjoyment of, and skill in, golf and bridge made him a sought after partner. In 1998, Andy and Eleanor moved to Red Wing, MN. They resided at the Seminary Plaza, and joined the First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; five children, Rae Ellen Landesberg of Portland, Maine; Robert (Susan) Anderson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Thomas (Clare) Anderson of Elmhurst, Illinois; Margaret (Douglas) Hipple of Hager City, Wisconsin; and Elizabeth (Brian) Bowman of Palmdale, California; four grandchildren, Cate Anderson, Eric Anderson, and Allison and Drew Hipple; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held on December 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Seminary Plaza with Rev. Gary Elg officiating. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
