Herbert Bigelbach

Herbert Joseph Bigelbach passed away peacefully at age 92 on April 29, 2023, at Deer Crest Senior Living in Red Wing.

Herb was born in St. Paul on November 29, 1930, to Helena “Lena” (Arnold) Bigelbach.  His father was Michael Nicholas Bigelbach.

Herb graduated from Washington High School in 1949, and attended St. Paul Vocational School for Tool and Die.  He worked 41 years at Honeywell in the Aerospace Division as a machinist and computer programmer.  He served in the Naval Air Reserve for 4 years.

Herb married Anna Mae Andert on June 13, 1953, at St. Bernard’s Church in St. Paul.  They were blessed with 4 children.  After Anna Mae passed away, Herb married Alice Petschen.

Herb was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman.  He played on many fastpitch softball teams in St. Paul, Minneapolis and on the Roseville senior slow-pitch softball league until he was 83 years old.  Herb also played on various touch football, basketball and volleyball leagues.  Most of his free time you would find Herb fishing throughout MN, Canada and at his cabin in Park Rapids, MN.

Herb enjoyed attending his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events.

Herb is survived by his two children, Cindy (Pat) Cunningham of Camano Island, WA and Dave (Dee) Bigelbach of Red Wing; daughters-in-law, Renee Bigelbach of Maplewood and Theresa (John) Anderson of Rosemount; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Mike, wives, Anna Mae and Alice and two sons, Tom and Mark.

A Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Church of St. John the Evangelist of Little Canada.  The visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
