Henry ?H.O.? Sommerfield age 94 of Mazeppa died on Tuesday afternoon October 10, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 13, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. at St. John?s Lutheran church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 12, 2006 from 5:00 ? 7:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Henry Otto Sommerfield was born on May 131, 1912 in Mazeppa Township, Wabasha County, MN to William and Anna (nee Goldbech) Sommerfield. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Henry framed with his parents and on October 9, 1935 he married Mathilda Betcher at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. They farmed in Chester and Mazeppa townships until 1961 when they moved to rural Elgin. Mathilda died on January 4, 1978. H.O. moved to Mazeppa in 1989 where he lived with daughter and son in law, Karen and Al Long. In 2003 he moved to the Zumbrota Nursing Home. H.O. enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and in his later years watching the birds and squirrels. Henry is survived by two daughters, Delores Shea of Hastings, and Karen (Al) Long of Mazeppa, three sons, Willmar (Diane) Sommerfield of Mazeppa, Elmer (Trish) Sommerfield of Rochester and Roger (Janice) Sommerfield of Zumbrota, daughter-in-law, Dee Ann Sommerfield of Mazeppa, thirteen grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. H.O. was preceded in death by his wife, Mathilda, one son, Kenneth, seven brothers, Ted, Adolph, Bill, Albert, Paul, Leo and Emil Sommerfield and three sisters, Annie Rowe, Ida Grams and Laura Betcher. Casketbearers are his grandsons, Jeff, Kevin, Ken and Paul Sommerfield and Gene, Dale and Ron Shea. Honorary bearers are his granddaughters, Wanda Voeltz, Karmon Schmitt, Susan Krzmarzick, Sara Sommerfield, Katherine Glasby, and Kathleen Wertish.
