Henry Hove

Henry (Bob) M. Hove, 86, of Red Wing, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, May 1st, 2009 after a lingering illness. He was born in Leon Township on April 9, 1923 to Hans J. & Mabel (Sande) Hove. He was baptized and confirmed at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. He grew up on the home farm and attended school in District 10. He continued his education while serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps and graduated in 1940.

He married Adeline M. Strusz of Vasa, December 26, 1944. He served in the United States Army as a Tank Gunner in 1945 and 1946 and was discharged as Private First Class, from Camp Stonemen, California. He returned to Leon Township and helped his father on the home farm. He then farmed in Cannon Falls and Dennison until 1956 when the family moved to Red Wing and he worked for American Rock Wool. After a stroke at age 35, surgery and recovery, he worked for S. B. Foot Tanning for 7 years. He completed his working career after 22 years as a Goodhue County employee. He was a member of United Lutheran Church and Disabled American Veterans.

He loved people. He enjoyed dancing. He took great pleasure in playing cards, especially with his wife & children late into the night. He was locally famous for his flower garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 children, Darwin, BethAnn, and Ruby, 3 brothers, Donald, Myron and Alden, 3 sisters, Dorothy Hove, Doris Mohr, and Shirley Ramm, 1 daughter-in-law, Terry Hove and 1 grandchild, Jodie Scheitel.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Adeline, 6 sons, Donald (Delphine Kukuska) Maiden Rock, Wisconsin., Dale (Kathy), Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, Darrell (Kymm), Hager City, Wisconsin., Danny (Mary), David, Dean (Teresa), 4 daughters, Bonnie (Duane) McKnight, Barbara Marik, Beverly (Arnie) Miller, BeNita (Greg) Hove-Domke, all from Red Wing; 3 sisters, Amanda Cooper, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Marcella (LeRoy) Hurlburt, Worthington, Minnesota, and JoAnn (John) Bach, Bay City, Wisconsin 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws, Iva Hauschildt, Janice Hince; brother-in-laws Herbert Strusz, Charles Hanson and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Steven Hove, Brian Hove, Jamie Scheitel, Michael Marik, Ben Miller, Shawn Hove, Chris Hove, Rob Hove, and Matt Bremer. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Hove, Brodie Scheitel, Scott Hove, Gregory James Domke, Joe Hove. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
