Helga G. Nerison, age 101, of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Zumbrota Health Services. She was born Helga Gurine Nerison on August 6, 1907, in Belle Creek Township, Goodhue County to Nels and Lisa (Tiller) Nerison. Helga graduated from 8th grade in 1921 from Husevold School, District #92. She excelled in grammar.
After her stepmother, Petrine, passed away in 1933, she kept house for her dad and brothers. In 1948, she moved to Zumbrota to become housekeeper for the Alton T. Grimsrud family who lost their wife/mother the previous year. During those years, she was proofreader at The Zumbrota News. She was a lifelong member of Minneola Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Helga enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her two sisters-in-law: Helen (Mrs. Phillip) Nerison, of Wanamingo and Helen (Mrs. Norman) Nerison, of Goodhue; eight nieces and nephews of the Nerison family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Lisa, A.T. Grimsrud, Carole Grimsrud Rajala and four brothers: Larry, Karl, Norman and Phillip.
