Helene Elizabeth Writer age 103 died July 6, 2006 at the Lake City Nursing Home. Helene was born July 6, 1903 in Modena, Wisconsin to G. Herman & Ida (Pfund) Heck. She married Sam Writer on June 17, 1928 in Modena, Wisconsin and has lived in Lake City since that time. She attended collage at Dr. Martin Luther College and taught at Christian Day Schools in Appleton, WI, Lake City, and Hay Creek. She was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City. Many of the organizational meetings of Bethany were held at her home, as well as Vacation Bible School in the early years of the church. She was the organist for Bethany for 28 years. Helene accompanied or sang in choirs from age 12 for more than 60 years. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Catechism classes for several decades, in addition to tutoring Asian refugees for ten years and supplying knit items to Caring and Sharing Hands and various other organizations. Sam died in 1972. She is survived by two daughters, Ramona (Paul) Blee of Grand Junction, CO, Antoinette Lamkin of St. Eustasis, West Indies; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Yvonne Grobe, four grandchildren; eight brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Bruce Stam officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church.
