ROCHESTER - A prayer service for Helen M. "Maudie" Vine will be 7 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Vine, 106, of Rochester, former owner of Vine Funeral Home, died Sunday (Nov. 18, 2007) at Madonna Towers Skilled Care Unit.
Helen Maude Toogood was born Oct. 18, 1901 in Rochester. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1919 and attended the University of Southern California from 1920 to 1921. She belonged to the Delta Gamma Sorority. She returned to Rochester and was employed at the Mayo Clinic until her marriage to Adelbert C. Vine on Aug. 28, 1923 at the home of her parents W.L. Toogood on Third Avenue S.E. in Rochester. She worked part time at Weber and Judd Gift Store. She was a long time employee at the former Vine Funeral Home and became owner after her husband's death on Apr. 7, 1956. She remained active in the business well into her 80's. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Does at the Rochester Elks Club and the Rebekkas of the Oddfellows Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Leonard) Lefkow of Bethesda, MD; a son, Dave (Mary) Vine of Rochester; five grandchildren, Randy (Roanna) Vine, and Annie Ringo Vine, both of Rochester; Chris (Jessica) Lefkow of Bethesda, MD; Laurel Anne (Simon Green) Lefkow of London, England; and Leslie Anne (Pete Buth) Lefkow of Amsterdam, Netherlands; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a granddaughter.
