Helen Cecelia Laughnan, 98 of Red Wing, died Sunday January 12, 2014 at the Seminary Home. She was born in Spring Valley, WI on June 23, 1915, the daughter of Michael and Cecelia Martin. Helen, the youngest of five children, grew up in Spring Valley and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1934. She married Wilbur Allen Laughnan of Ellsworth, WI on September 26, 1940. The couple lived in Red Wing a short time before moving to south Minneapolis. When they retired, they returned to Red Wing and lived in Jordan Towers II. She later moved to Potters Ridge and then the Seminary Home. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph Parish and last worked as a waitress at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing. Helen was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her family.
Helen is survived by her children, Thomas Laughnan of Red Wing, Rita Anthofer of Coon Rapids, IA, Joan Belt of Silverdale, WA, Theresa Voth of Elmwood, WI; grandchildren, Cheryl Kalama, Linda Sporrer, Matthew Belt, Elizabeth Platt, Katherine Arvisais, Erika Auth, Adam Voth, Katelin Thibado; 10 great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and four siblings.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers Presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
