Helen Lois Forsberg, 92, of Red Wing, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born August 28, 1915, in Frankfort Township in Pepin County to Andrew and Mary (Fryklund) Johnson. She attended High School in Ellsworth, WI. She married Merlin Forsberg April 8, 1935 in Durand, WI. They moved to Red Wing in 1936. She worked for a time at J.C. Penny's during the late 40's. Merlin died December 20, 1997. She was a member at First Covenant Church, the Ladies Aid, Homemakers Club, and the American Swedish Institute. She enjoyed doing genealogy and traveling, as she went to Sweden 13 times and had also traveled throughout the U.S. She also enjoyed painting, gardening, and wildflowers.
She is survived by her three daughters, Yvonne (Paul) Bork of New Hope, MN, Ann (Leon) DeWitt of Zumbrota, and Carol (Dan) Bender of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; and brother, Glen Johnson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Covenant Church in Red Wing with Rev. Timothy Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin, WI. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Paul Bork II, Bryan DeWitt, Shaun Bender, Dylan Bender, Bojan Hoover, and Ray DeWitt. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Elizabeth Hoover, Julie Banitt, Erin Ranslow, and Ingrid Bender. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to First Covenant Church.
